Entergy, December 2024
Meta Hyperion
Louisiana farmland to a multi-gigawatt AI campus, seen from orbit.
Meta broke ground on its Richland Parish data center in December 2024, on the Franklin Farm megasite near Holly Ridge. This guide sets satellite pictures of the build beside what Meta, Entergy and the state have said about its size, power and cost, with a source and a date on every figure.
Eleven clear Sentinel-2 passes over the same 5.4 by 8.3 km frame, from June 2024 to October 2026. Press play, or drag the slider.
29 OCT 2026What the passes show: farmland through the summer of 2024; the first graded block, in the north of the site, on 30 December 2024; earthworks stretching through the middle of the site by May 2025; building pads, ponds and a large car park by September; the first large roofs in the core by February 2026; and from April 2026, new ground graded west of the core, beyond the bayou.
Status checkChecked
No. Roofed halls fill the core of the site and new pads are being graded to the west. Meta has raised the plan to 5 GW, and the sources still disagree on how big the finished campus will be.
This panel is the only part of the page tied to a date. Everything below it is background, with the period stated on every figure.

The Hyperion data center is in Richland Parish in north-east Louisiana, near the hamlet of Holly Ridge, on what Entergy calls the Franklin Farm megasite, a certified site of more than 1,400 acres (Entergy, 6 December 2024). Louisiana Economic Development datelines its July 2026 release from Holly Ridge. One directory listing places the campus in Shreveport; it is in Richland Parish.
Meta calls the project the Richland Parish Data Center. Hyperion is the name of the multi-gigawatt AI training cluster it will house (Meta, 19 December 2025). Wikipedia lists earlier code names, Project Sucre among them (Wikipedia).

Meta's other big AI campus, Prometheus, is in New Albany, Ohio. Wikipedia puts it at 1 GW (Wikipedia). It is a separate project, with its own power arrangements.
It depends which page you read, and when. Meta's own campus page says the data center will deliver 5 gigawatts of compute capacity and, further down, "over two gigawatts" (Meta). Both sentences were on the page on 6 November 2026. Wikipedia reads them as about 2 GW online by 2030 and 5 GW at full build-out, around 2032.

Some search answers give more than 3,200 acres. That figure does not appear on any of the pages we read, so it is not in this table. Cleanview's 6,500 MW, which makes Hyperion the largest US campus under construction on its list, does not say which filing it comes from (Cleanview).

In the October 2026 pass the campus runs about 7 km north to south. Roofed halls fill the core, ponds and car parks sit around them, and to the west, beyond the bayou, large pads have been graded since April 2026. Structures at the northern end of the site are not identified in any source we have read, so we do not label them.
Hyperion's power comes from Entergy Louisiana, and the plan has grown with the campus.

| Second plan | Seven gas plants, more than 5,200 MW | Entergy, 27 Mar 2026 |
| Transmission, later | About 240 miles of new 500 kV lines | Entergy, 27 Mar 2026 |
| Renewables | Up to 2,500 MW of new renewable resources | Entergy, 27 Mar 2026 |
| Customer savings | About $2.65 billion across both agreements | Entergy, 27 Mar 2026 |
| Bill assistance | $215 million for low- and fixed-income customers | Meta; Louisiana Economic Development |
Who carries the cost is disputed. The state says Meta pays the full cost of its infrastructure during a 20-year service agreement, protecting other customers from rate rises (Louisiana Economic Development). Consumer groups asked the Public Service Commission to investigate the financing behind the campus, which it declined to do on 25 February 2026 (Earthjustice).
On water, Meta says the campus uses a closed-loop glycol system with dry cooling for most of the year, and that restoration projects will return 100% of the data center's water consumption to the Boeuf, Tensas and Lower Mississippi watersheds (Meta).
Meta does not own most of Hyperion. On 21 October 2025 it formed a joint venture with funds managed by Blue Owl Capital to develop and own the campus: Blue Owl's funds hold 80% and Meta 20%, with development costs of about $27 billion. Meta leases the buildings on four-year initial terms and has given a residual-value guarantee for the first 16 years of operation (Meta).

The jobs figures have moved too. Meta said in December 2025 that 3,700 construction workers had worked on the site, with a peak of 5,000 expected by June 2026 and more than 500 operational jobs to follow. The state's July 2026 release gives 7,500 construction jobs at peak and about 1,000 operational jobs, plus 1,900 indirect jobs by its own estimate. Meta says more than $1.6 billion has been contracted with Louisiana businesses since groundbreaking.
